After a few years of verbal sparring, court filings and bad blood, the PGA Tour and LIV Golf have agreed to merge, ending golf's civil war in a stunning turn of events. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan:
"After two years of disruption and distraction, this is a historic day for the game we all know and love," Monahan said in a statement Tuesday. "This transformational partnership recognizes the immeasurable strength of the PGA Tour’s history, legacy and pro-competitive model and combines with it the DP World Tour and LIV — including the team golf concept — to create an organization that will benefit golf’s players, commercial and charitable partners and fans."
Or maybe they were using an invisible golf ball. Or maybe there was so much money involved and negotiations were so secretive, any individual breaking the silence would face dire consequences.
Isn't it funny how things work out? I know there are those (bashturds) who will immed'ly point out that this merger is in no way comparable, in terms of money at least, to the presumed 'deal' that could, that might, involve BIEL and other entities to create a 'de facto' standard of care for world-wide, drug-free, non-opioid, no side effect, pain relief.
So true. 'Golf is a game' vs 'Chronic pain relief and/or freedom from opioid abuse for 100s of millions of people' is no comparison at all.
If reports are to be believed (cough, cough ... ) this deal came out of the blue, taking everyone by surprise. If you believe that I've got a bridge to sell ya. People knew. How could they not? For the vast majority of sports fans it probably did feel like a bolt out of blue. Even though the merger was inevitable, this did happen quickly given the apparent animosity between the two tours.
Unexpected events happen is the lesson to be learned. As I have said, merely b/c it has not been done before is no reason to believe it cannot be done at all. BIEL is in a similar position now. Without the historical baggage, of course. There are multiple points of interest and odd coincidences pointing at and suggesting that a 'deal' of sorts is in the future.
BIEL will sit on the backbench ... until it doesn't.
