No, after the revolution and the passing of the Constitution they would recognize the meaning of the 'well regulated militia' clause and would have f'ing enforced it.
Do you think that if they could have been given a glimpse of the assault weapons capabilities, consequences of their use, they would want free access to them?
They could read, write and think well enough to give us that Constitution and Bill of Rights and they would realize that we're no longer smart enough to understand their intent.
Next time a f'ing school is shot up by some asshole with an assault rifle maybe you'll think the same. Or, business as usual, you simply won't think.
