Unfortunately, while sepsis is common, it is spread throughout the medical systems in small numbers. I think it would be difficult to obtain enough patients, in adequate numbers, where the clinical trial is set to run (literally, it would have to get patients from hundreds of facilities). Unless the FDA adopts a new, and improved, way of doing things, we would not have the resources to fill a trial of the magnitude, it would take, to get strong results. Additionally, I think the standard of care may differ greatly, from one location to another. I am not a doctor. However, there has been such varying results, in treating sepsis, that there really isn't a standard protocol for treatment. As with most things, nothing is as easy as it seems.
