The problem has always been… you give them an inch and they will take all of the guns. Something of a NRA mantra. I don’t believe in that personally.
I am a lifetime hunter and own over 15 guns and a beautiful gun safe and they are all hunting rifles and shot guns. No assault weapons. I just recently acquired a concealed pistol license for my resident state that requires one. I have yet to buy a pistol but soon enough I will… more of a protection while cruising around in my new 5th wheel. I have never felt the need to carry locally or in my area.
I feel the laws for assault rifles need to happen. If it only slows down the amount of mass shootings that’s fine. I hope the republicans are not just blowing smoke up our arses telling us that we need mental asylums again then not funding them. We have needed them for 30 years or more and guess who pulled the social program funding from them? The mentally deficient people walking the streets anymore are many and jail is their only option for care or be homeless. There is really two types of homeless in drug/alcohol addicted or mental issues that are not getting help like we use to have for those people. It’s sad that the general population has turned a blind eye to these people. What is wrong with love thy neighbor?
People like Steel can get their drug addictions taken care of if we start to fund this social programs again. They are not getting funded or are underfunded depending on where you live. Everyone deserves a chance and those that can’t use those chances can serve time is my opinion.
So I believe we need both… assault rifle sales bans and those that have them can keep them. But you can not sell them or hand them down after you pass on. They will have to be forfeited over time.
I also believe in funding the mental asylums and drug treatment facilities to stop the crime they have to keep doing to keep their habits going. It’s either pay for them to lose their addiction of take insurance losses and high premiums because they are stealing us all blind. Some more than others of coarse.
What we are doing now is not working… it’s only getting worse and one party is not helping. You tell me what party that is… People of this nation are getting tired of our government’s positions and will start to vote this as a priority both ways if they haven’t already. There should be common ground and compromises and stop ignoring the lack of effort on the issues. The time for change is now…
