Last week I shared an exciting announcement about a transformative solution for health care — the creation of Risant Health.
There has been considerable interest in this initiative, and I wanted to expand upon why I — along with others across the health care industry — am so optimistic that Risant Health will greatly accelerate the adoption of #ValueBasedCare.
For nearly 80 years, Kaiser Permanente has set the standard for value-based care in America. Our model was designed with value in mind, and our coordinated approach to care and coverage has proven to keep our members healthy and provide outstanding care if they become sick.
As we emerge from the pandemic, we recognize that we must honor our history while also continuing to create new and different ways to deliver value-based care to more people. Enter Risant Health.
By bringing together non-profit, community-based health systems that are similarly committed to high quality, equitable, and affordable care, we believe Risant Health will help set a new standard for every system, improving outcomes and the sustainability of nonprofit health care overall.
To serve the leading health systems that will be part of Risant Health, we are developing a new platform that offers value-based best practices, tools, technology, and services. The platform will bring together KP’s value-based care expertise with the health systems’ abilities to operate in multi-payer, multi-provider environments.

By bringing together the best of Kaiser Permanente with the skills and capabilities of leading community-based health systems like Geisinger (the first to join Risant Health), we can make high- quality, equitable, evidence-based care available to many more communities across the country.
We’re thrilled to have Geisinger contribute its more than a century of experience and leadership in the delivery of high-quality care and coverage to Pennsylvania communities to this effort. We have much to learn from its expertise in partnering with multiple players and providers and delivering care to rural communities.
And that’s truly the point of Risant Health — to lift one another up, while consistently delivering on our mission.
