The fast majority of funds that hold Verb are not index funds. Maybe a little more than a handful are. The ones from Vanguard and Fidelity are.
Of those that are, you'd actually have to read how the fund is managed. Some just sample the index instead of trying to own a percentage of every stock under the sun. Others like Fidelity NASDAQ Composite Index Fund hold the stocks in the NASDAQ. 2022 wasn't a good year for that fund.
