I understand them just fine. They eat ship hulls, and if a ship sinks, they’ll eat the entire thing.
They poop and the poop forms a crust.
The (ahem) expert in Part Deux is suggesting the cultural heritage that was once ABOVE the big ole ballast pile, is now below it under the 8 foot crust.
It makes about as much sense as the treasure is 5 miles from the ballast pile, but not nearly as absurd as the $15B valuation of a ship they can’t ID.
