ok there you go, patterson was not first. i have no idea why he thought he should file for patent or why he thought he would be granted it, or why his lawyers agreed to back him on that. but it might have been there for the picking. he would not have filed if he didnt think he would get it just to waste money.
and by that time nader had been talking out of the side of his mouth to patterson, it was war anyway
theres no such thing as fair. is he dishonest for doing it? i dont know. no idea what case law is on that subject.
i do remember how people were buying up dot com registry names like coke.com and nike.com just to hold them hostage from the businesses that were too stupid to not register it them selves, and made millions.
hotels.com = $11 million
