Over the past year, America’s arsenal of Covid treatments has shrunk as new variants of the coronavirus have eroded the potency of drug after drug. Many patients are now left with a single option, Paxlovid.
In a Brazil/Canada clinical trial of nearly 2,000 patients, Eiger's pegylated interferon lambda rivaled those achieved by Paxlovid. For Eiger's interferon the FDA suggested that only a large clinical trial conducted at least in part in the United States and with more involvement from the company would suffice, Eiger executives said, a scenario that would require several years and considerably more funding.
The problem is Pfizer's profits with FDA help, not paperwork. It is also why CA is staying out of Covid. The story of how Pfizer crushed Merck's molnupiravir is a case in point. Merck needs to partner using Leronlimab for revenge.
