Churchill’s pithy wit would have something to say about recent events but perhaps this well worn quote will suffice: Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. It wasn’t until I read Erik Larson’s book The Splendid and the Vile that I realized how tenuous the situation was for England…Churchill could see the way to victory even in that moment.
