Many years ago, Dorothy Thompson, the American journalist who was personally kicked out of Nazi Germany by Hitler, wrote one of the most brilliant columns ever published. She titled it “Who goes Nazi?”
It appeared in Harper’s in August of 1941. She imagined a dinner party and conjured a parlor game in which the Nazis had to be guessed from among the attendees. It certainly stands the test of time. Recognize any archetypes?
Donald Trump will never be elected to office again, but his capacity to light fires and make things burn should not be underestimated.
Donald Trump has always been a crook, liar, cheat and vicious narcissist. He was also a builder. He was.
He’s not anymore. He’s in the demolition business now. That is who he had dinner with on Tuesday night. It was a table of arsonists who want to make America burn.
The silence around it from America’s corrupted elites, like always, is the most disgusting aspect of a story that — at first glance — couldn’t be made more so.
In the end perhaps, that is Donald Trump’s special magic. He can make poison septic. That isn’t easy to do.
