What's a SPAC and why do I care?
Imagine a company that's just... money. That's a SPAC, or Special Purpose Acquisition Corporation. They are also called "blank check companies".
Typically, founders (called sponsors) will recruit investors for, say, $100 million in capital, and then go hunting for a company to buy.
The Harvard Business Review tells us: "...There’s this remarkable fact: In 2020, SPACs accounted for more than 50% of new publicly listed U.S. companies."
So... why did we announce on Monday that we had retained a law firm to explore a potential business combination with a NASDAQ-listed Special Purpose Acquisition Corporation (SPAC)?
