These are ho-hum charges in major blue cities like NYC, Chicago, and SF these days. I wonder why they didn't let DePape out within a few hours on cashless bail? Last year, a NYC judge cut loose "Takim Newson, 32, who had more than 20 priors and was charged with attempted murder and related crimes." Specifically, he was picked up for dragging an officer during a traffic stop, later breaking into an apartment, then stealing a vehicle.
Hard to believe a lovers' spat with some mild assault and battery rates 50 years. I wonder what is different about this situation...?
