The FDA demanded that the company literally apologize for its public misstatements by publishing a retraction in a public forum similar to the PRs. That was I believe the origin of the mea culpa banner.
They also said we had to wear a pointed hat and sit in the corner until we learned how to behave. The public whippings and hours in the stocks were optional.
