North Dakota gas flaring hits historic low
Posted Feb 15, 2021
In November, the state of North Dakota hit a new milestone in its fight against flaring in the Bakken oil fields. < < < < < <
From November through December of 2020, 94% of the gross natural gas produced from Bakken < < wells was captured. < < < < <
During his February report, Lynn Helms, director of the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources, pointed out that the 94% capture rate, exceeds the 91 percent goal set by the North Dakota Industrial Commission.
Why do LNG plants flare?
Flaring is an essential part of the LNG production process, ensuring the conversion of natural gas to liquid is carried out safely. During flaring, methane is broken down into water vapour and carbon dioxide, which has just 1/25th the greenhouse impact as releasing unburnt gas.
================================================
Have you ever looked at North Dakota and Montana at night? They flare off 90% of the natural gas that comes out of the Bakken oil fields. Do you know how much that is? Do your D&D and figure out just how much LNG is burned and wasted. My brother has oil right on a major oil well and it produces equal amounts of Oil and gas and water. 1/3 each and the Natural Gas rarely gets paid out because they flare it off.
