You are spot on DJknows, they could care less. Look at the millions who have perished due to oxycontin. Suppressing, hiding of trial data, tampering of trials, tampering of data, formatting, they have their ways and means, toying with death as if the patient is only a statistic while forming excuses in case of questions. Modus Operandi of Big Pharma and FDA.
You are right, things could have been done differently. The world would have benefited tremendously. But we don't rule the world. When it comes to medicine, BP rules that from President, to supreme court to congress and then to FDA and down. Their lobbyists outnumber government law makers at least 20:1. All the positives you list have no meaning in their eyes. Their only concern is bottom dollar, even if it kills as long as they can make it look like it helps.
