A little more info on CoastEco Timber, which could be the Caribbean opportunity HIMR recently mentioned in their Shareholder Update. Why would HIMR be interested in this company? Because they still use divers to recover their timber.
At CoastEcoTimber we are proud pioneers of the green timber movement and we have made the conscious decision to lead by example. We adhere to strict FSC® certification policies and have taken a leading role in the evolution of the forest industry. Our company is built on a commitment to sustainable forestry and giving back to the communities that surround us through our DoGoodWood program. We aspire to be one of the world's leading suppliers of high quality reclaimed and ethically harvested exotic hardwoods.
Wood is our passion, and we are dedicated to enriching each project by finding quality in sustainable rare and unique wood for our clients.
Reclaim. Rescue. Rediscover. Repeat.
CoastEcoTimber is a fully integrated wood manufacturer that owns two operating subsidiaries, Gesvalue and CoastEcoTimber Panama which together employ over 80 people in Panama that work at our underwater operations and at our sawmill.
Gesvalue is our underwater harvesting company which has the rights to underwater log a 1,147 sq. hectare concession of old growth exotic hardwoods submerged in Lake Gatun. When Teddy Roosevelt dammed the Chagres River in 1913 to create what is now called the Panama Canal, he flooded a jungle the size of Montreal, Canada and created Lake Gatun. This is the area in which Gesvalue is salvaging timbers. Working with the indigenous tribe as well as her team of skilled divers and sawmill staff, CoastEcoTimber is delving deep to recover timber that has lay preserved in the underwater jungles of Panama since 1979 to provide customers with this spectacular historic wood.
CoastEcoTimber Panama is our sawmill that converts the logs into wood products. In addition to sawmilling, CoastEcoTimber Panama manufactures the lumber into a wide range of wood products from commodity type products to kiln dried slabs, flooring, decking, and furniture components, as well as the high value veneer stock. Being an integrated facility, CoastEcoTimber controls the quality and supply of our products and have aligned ourselves with customers all over the world, thus ensuring well established relationships. Being a vertically integrated company also allows us to reduce delivery times to our valued customers at very competitive prices.
In addition to our concession wood, we augment our timber supply by purchasing open market logs from a variety of Central and South American wood sources including WWF approved logging operations and FSC® certified teak farms.
