As a surgeon, Bertagnolli specializes in gastrointestinal tumors. In her lab, she studies a gene named APC (adenomatous polyposis coli), how its mutation or loss initiates tumor transformation and whether drugs that work on this pathway can treat colorectal cancer.
Very interesting. APC is protective against cancer mainly through blocking activation of beta-catenin. Our old friend CCL5 (RANTES) and CCL2 (another CCR5 ligand) upregulates beta-catenin activition. Leronlimab of course would downregulate that activation. Almost certainly Dr. Bertagnolli is aware of this.
Beta-catenin is also implicated in quite a number of other cancers.
