Hollund Industrial Marine believes that trees do not belong underwater; that trees can be brought “back to life” in a safe and environmentally responsible manner; and that technology in the form of their TigerLynk underwater tree harvesting system can make this economically feasible. The HIMR concept is a simple proposition; do we rescue valuable old growth trees entombed in underwater graves and preserved from degradation by the cold and airless waters of hydroelectric dam reservoirs, or do we let these trees remain and risk death and injury from boating and diving accidents, waterway navigation problems, fishing line and net entanglements, as well as damage to hydroelectric dam turbines? Removing these valuable submerged trees reduces greenhouse gas emissions caused when turbines spin and pull up methane gas naturally produced by submerged vegetation from the depths of these reservoirs and then released into the atmosphere --- methane is one of the more potent greenhouse gases. Finally, submerged trees are considered "dead" already. Therefore, logging submerged trees causes no environmental damage to existing forests, and reduces pressure to log ancient land forests. Logging submerged forests produces economic benefits as well. Entire industries have sprung up near waterways where submerged logging is done. Thus, Hollund's underwater tree harvesting system can create value for local communities and national governments. Environmental leadership and financial returns --- a winning combination for HIMR investors.
