Well, yeah, if you're going to get all of your content into an event that's scheduled to last exactly two hours, you have to be reading from a script.
Being scripted rather than spontaneous doesn't mean that what was said was any less truthful. It just means that the meeting didn't meander on for hours while people danced around the point.
In the later televised meetings in the morning hours, it might not be as scripted. But they aren't going to be calling surprise witnesses who will be telling the committee completely new information.
The whole intent is to present to the public the findings of the committee. The "being televised" portion of the committee's work isn't to discover additional new information but rather to highlight the most important parts of what they've already found to the public.
