Democrats protest new store that sells Christian-themed and pro-Trump items in Abingdon

Several members of the Democratic Party protested the opening of a new store in Abingdon Thursday.
The Mountain Patriots of Abingdon offers pro-Trump, pro-military and Christian-themed merchandise.
It is also going to be the Republican Party headquarters for Washington County, Virginia.
GOP supporters will be able to obtain political signs there and meet Republican candidates.
"I don't understand why they're out protesting," Washington County, Virginia Commissioner of Revenue Mark Matney said. "I would be ashamed to be out. With our food prices, people can't hardly make it. When Pal's opened up here in Abingdon, they protested Pal's. So, I guess I should feel honored that they're protesting me."
"When you conflate religion with politics, there is never a moment that our democracy is more vulnerable then at that point," Washington County, Virginia Democratic Committee Chair Susan Stancill said. "That's what our Founding Fathers understood. That's what the enshrined in the First Amendment. And that's the concept that escapes Mr. Matney."
The store is located at 560 West Main Street.
