I thought this article was worth a read for several reasons. Although it has nothing to do with CCR5, it does show how many patients were used for the study (500), the improvement over the standard of care (about 6 months), the cost ($14,000 per month) and states that "patients can take the drug until they can no longer tolerate it" because it causes potentially series breathing problems and 3 patients died of a lung disease that this drug is known to potentially cause. If only there was a drug with no SAEs...
