There's a drug approved for smallpox in the US that is approved for both smallpox and monkeypox in the EU -- SIGA's drug TPOXX. It is very effective against monkeypox. No need to trial LL for it.
A side note: not only SIGA but Emergent and Chimerix have zoomed up w/ the monkeypox outbreak. See, Chimerix makes a drug that has been approved for smallpox by the FDA; Emerging recently bought it, and Chimerix gets a royalty. But what investors don't seem to know is that Chimerix's drug was tested against monkeypox in 2007 (and not after that), and all the monkeys died. So this rush to buy EBS and CMRX is the product of vast ignorance.
