Re: mdimport #11626

If you are trying to "keep an active dialogue so when the Q is reported there'll be a Tweet trail with substantiation" you may want to create your own hashtag (#).  I would recommend something like #baroncapitalQ or #BCAPquarterly.  You want to pick something unique (i.e. by doing a search on twitter nobody is currently using that hashtag), so that those that know about the purpose of the hashtag will use it in their tweets as well and it will avoid random posts showing up in the trail that don't belong.  If you use #BCAP only, you will get a bunch of tweets from other users that have BCAP in their twitter name or they go to some BCAP school, stuff like that.  Just use the twitter search and you will likely see what I mean.

To get to your earlier point on the use of $ vs. #.  The $ is typically used to denote ticker symbols, I forget the origins, but that is why people use the money sign.  The # is typically used to denote topics or search keywords (i.e. #BCAP tweets will show up when you search for BCAP, but so will other tweets that have BCAP somewhere in the tweet).  If you use $BCAP, and someone searches for $BCAP, they will only see posts with $BCAP and not the unrelated #BCAP posts that may be shown if you just search BCAP.

Like for myself, the MVP contest board has a twitter account that automatically tweets out every post, but for those that want to optimize their post for maximum exposure I recommend using $ticker in the first part of the post.  I also recommend optimizing twitter posts by using relevant hashtags.  Nobody, besides your twitter followers, will see you BCAP posts, unless they search for BCAP.  However, if you throw in some popular hashtags, like #stockalert #stockmarket #stocknews #cnbc, etc., you will likely reach a larger audience who is searching those terms, plus people have twitter streams on their websites, so it might end up on those websites for a brief moment if you use the search terms they have set up in their websites twitter widget.
