Four Psychedelics Movies to Watch Interest in p
Post# of 341
Interest in psychedelic substances has grown significantly these last couple of years as studies unearth more evidence on their benefits and numerous uses. That interest isn’t just confined to uses and benefits; attention has also been paid to psychedelic media. If you’re interested in consuming psychedelic media but aren’t sure where to look, you can start here. Below are a few psychedelic movies that you can watch.
“Spirited Away”
This animated feature was directed and written by Hayao Miyazaki and animated by Studio Ghibli. It conveys the story of a young girl who enters the world of spirits while she moves to a new neighborhood. Here, her parents are turned into pigs by a witch, and the girl has to work to find a way to free both her parents as well as herself and get back to the human world.
The story can feel like a bad trip, given the feelings of being trapped and lost as well as the bombardment of the incomprehensible and grotesque.
“Gumby, the Movie”
Art Clokey, a stop-motion clay animation artist, was behind this 1995 film’s creative vision. The film was intended for children and starred Gumby, a character created by Clokey himself. The film is said to be a product of a very psychedelic mind, but you’ll have to see it yourself to believe it.
“Enter the Void”
We all know that death is inevitable, and while there isn’t much that is known about it, other than many believe that it’s the end of consciousness as we know it, we still try to understand it.
This 2009 experimental drama art film was directed by and written by Gaspar Noé. It tells the story of a man who uses psychedelics such as DMT and supports himself by dealing. The guy is killed in a bar while attempting to get rid of the drugs, which is when he leaves his body.
We watch the subsequent events from the main character’s out-of–body experience, seeing him observe his life from the moment he was born and how his death affected those around him, while also experiencing others’ memories and happenings while in their heads.
“The Holy Mountain”
This 1973 surrealist fantasy was written, directed and edited by Alejandro Jodorowsky. It takes viewers on a journey with a thief who later becomes an alchemist’s apprentice. In the film, the thief is introduced to individuals who will accompany him on his journey, each of whom represents one of the planets. The alchemist leads the characters through a number of transformation rituals before they each return to the “real world.”
