I like your thinking but assuming the story you portray is right on ...then what happens is arbitrators start moving the price either side if the 50 bucks a share based on what they portend the next step to be ....for example when Bristol bought Celgene the buyout price was either plus or minus 10% the day and weeks following the news based in whether arbitrators thought there may be a better offer or not ....again manipulation by market makers
