It has been years since I enjoyed scuba and actually will consider that again if I can gain enough common strength muscles again. Since I can breath exceptional easy now I welcome that idea as long as the muscles could carry me. I'm not sure if that is possible any more but is a thought. I will say after about 6 dives the "idea - fear" of shark attack diminishes to a pleasant comfort level in typical Salt water however black water I have never enjoyed being around and would never dive in it. Strange how the mind reacts to various conditions. Crawling under a house with hardly any light at all doesn't even stimulate any fear. How strange is the realm of fear and security. As for thinking about the black water again? I won't even want to be in a canoe let alone a Kayak.
I think the black water fear might come from making canoes out of old tin roofing sheets where we would tar the hole and take them for miles and miles until the water got too deep opening up into the bayou. Along the way you would have to get out due to typical sand or tree branches blocking our way. There where always cottonmouths and we would try to make sure we could spot them first. As some of you may know those suckers are bad news and would attack so it was you or them. Those were the stupid 10-13 year old bull crap but looking back I think that fear stayed with me and that water was black (brackish) as you might know.
