sure its all speculation but my belief is he had until the end of the year to achieve specific goals given to him by the BOD and he didn't hit them...a couple of weeks into the new year his employment was terminated.. those few weeks between the end of the year and his termination were the lawyers ensuring no lawsuits from the terminated employee and sealing the deal with the parachute he probably had in his contract. sometimes those are negotiated even though they are stipulated in their service agreements such as giving the person leaving an additional kicker above and beyond the contracted agreement for departure
