Cracks open between Republicans as alleged scheme to falsify 2020 election documents emerges
The scheme "may go all the way to the top,” Michigan attorney general Dana Nessel said on MSNBC

As Merrick Garland explained in his big speech earlier this month, the way to dismantle a criminal conspiracy is to start at the bottom and work up. It's a slow process, but it can be devastatingly effective.
That's why the fifty-nine Republicans who cast fake electoral votes are a gift to investigators seeking to understand Trump's role in the plot to overturn the 2020 election. These pseudo-electors impersonated public officials in a bid to overturn a presidential election.
They signed forged paperwork and sent it to the government. It's an open-and-shut case, but investigators could parlay this into something much bigger than prison terms for a few dozen local GOP operatives.
In a group of nearly 60 people facing serious prison time, at least some of them will be willing to implicate the higher ups to save themselves. ...........(more)

The committee called attention to Trump’s 2:24 p.m. tweet saying, “Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!”
It listed statements from rioters describing how that tweet set them off: “Once we found out Pence turned on us and that they had stolen the election, like officially, the crowd went crazy….”
“Then we heard the news on pence… And lost it… So we stormed.”

3. This was all conceived and orchestrated by Donald Trump.
He came up with the idea to negate the outcome of the election even before the election. He probably didn't do a lot of the planning.
He told people like Mike Flynn and Alex Jones and Roger Stone what he wanted done and they figured out the best way they knew how to carry out his wishes.
The planners of the insurrection are of secondary concern. Trump was the father of this fiasco and I hope the DoJ and the 1/6 Committee don't lose sight of his primary culpability.
