WAY TO GO - Russia to introduce life sentences in Arctic prison camps for repeat pedophiles

MOSCOW, RUSSIA – Russia is expected to introduce life sentences for pedophiles and jail them in Arctic prison camps in response to the horrific rape and murder of a five-year-old girl whose abduction was captured on video.

Parliamentary speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said those who sexually abuse children “cannot be called human,” and vowed “even tougher measures by sending all pedophiles to polar regions” to serve their sentences.

The draft law to increase penalties had its first reading late last. Under the proposed rule change, Russians who have already been convicted of pedophilia and who attack children again could be sentenced to life in prison.

Duma chairman Volodin said:

“Those convicted for such crimes should serve life sentences in the harshest conditions – in the extreme north [of Russia] or in mines.

“These b******s should undergo the hardest labor, so they remember the crimes they committed every day – and regret them.”

The calls to increase penalties follows the release of disturbing video showing five-year-old Veronika Nikolayeva struggling as two men abducted her from a public park.

According to Russian media. The child was playing near the cinema and cultural complex where her mother works in Kostroma on January 4. A roadside camera captured video of two men grabbing the child in broad daylight.

The men carried the girl along a snowy road as she struggled and fought back. The men passed several bystanders who took no action to help the young victim and no calls to police were made.

As the child continued to scream and fight her attackers, they carried her away out of view of the cameras.

Police eventually identified the two suspects who were arrested and confessed to the rape and murder of the child. The Russian Investigative Committee reported:

“(Officers) detained two suspects who confessed to the murder of the child, the body of the victim was found in a room in a residential hostel.”

The child’s body was found in a duffle bag as the suspects, named Denis Gerasimov, 44, and his gay lover Vadim Belyakov, 24, planned to dispose of her body. She had been stabbed multiple times, according to authorities.

Volodin said the murder has shocked the country and highlighted the need for tougher sentences. He also pointed out that :

“One of the detained men turned out to be a formerly convicted pedophile. Let’s do everything for the law on life sentences for pedophiles to be adopted in January.”

Under current Russian law, repeat offenders who target children under 14 years of age currently face sentences of 15 years to life in prison.

Under the new proposed law, that sentence would be extended to victims under 18 years old.

Additionally, life sentences could be ordered for pedophiles found guilty of raping or sexually assaulting two or more children.

Volodin commented:

“A life sentence is a just measure to isolate the degenerates. They cannot be called humans, although they are in human form.

“We hope that this measure will protect children, families, and society as a whole from those who cause irreparable harm.”
