to elaborate a little more, MM through the history of the major stock markets made money off the gap between the bid and the ask. It does not matter if it is up or down, the gap s the profit for the MM. Major markets and stocks with high liquidity have very tight bid/ask, and that is why the actual floor trading that MM work from don't exist and so many bar and restaurants are groups of ex-MM. there is no profit for them now on major exchanges. However, the OTC is like the old west with only retail investors and traders and companies with mile wide bid ask spreads. It is easy for the MM to gather sales and dump them at once to move the price to meet there target. The Shorts see this plain as day and don't care what the company does at all. Skewing sentiment is easy to serve the purpose.
I know most here know this but it is important to not think shorters are against the company or leronlimab, they are just filling their trades and the MM is making their paycheck. None of this has anything to do with Leronlimab other than the companies ablity to raise funds. I don't feel Cytodyn has the skill to take advantage of this and even if they did the timing to coordinate with funding needs and catalysts would be impossible.
