He said a thousand emails (e.g., people).
Assume they email to ten people in each Pharma, that's only 100 Pharmas, not 1000.
Maybe he did not choose his words as precise as he should (yes, he did not learn English as his first language like most of us), but you appear to be misconstruing what he said, IMHO.
