If you think about finishing the Covid trials like poker it might help make sense. When you’re playing no limit hold ‘em and you've put a shitload (let’s call it $20,000) into the pot and now you’re staring at the river card, it would be statistically stupid to not match a tiny $1,000 bet to flip cards and see the river. You may make $42,000 or more, depending on the other players who bet. We’ve spent millions to get to a phase 3 that should work. We’ve spent the majority of the money we will need to get through trials and to approval. So let’s spend the last “thousand” dollars and get our results. Yes, the pandemic may be transitioning to endemic and we may not see billions from it now. But we’ll have another Covid in the future and we’ll be locked and loaded for it. Approved and respected. It makes zero sense to fold at this point. But I can get with the idea that once we call the bet and see the results, maybe at that point we pick our chips up and move on to another game. May I suggest Pai-Gow? Lots of pushing while you pound free drinks.
