In 2020, people locked down, took precautions to avoid infection or spread it, and vaccines worked well for early Covid strains.

2021… lockdowns lifted, due in part to complacency that everyone would take the vaccine and it would remain highly effective. Then we get new variations undercutting the vax, half the country won’t take it, half the world can’t afford it… etc.

2021 was a perfect storm for higher numbers and I don’t see a slowdown anytime soon. I think we’re about to see a complete collapse of the healthcare system. There have been previous waves when medical staffing and crowded ICUs were a problem but now it’s getting scary.
