There is a logical fallacy in your implied argument.
He is talking about Covid, not the entire class of coronaviruses.
It would be like arguing that Covid and the Common Cold are both coronaviruses; because the Common Cold is not deadly, therefore, Covid is not deadly.
They are both subsets of the class of coronaviruses, but that does not make them the same.
