What some people fail to consider when saying omicron is a less severe variant is that it may spread 70x times faster. Most likely going to make a largest portion of the US and World infected at the same time which when older folks get omicron it will still hospitalize many of them especially the ones with underlying conditions. How many 70+ year olds do you know without and underlying conditions? Also what does this do for long haulers? I think based on sheer volume of potential infections, hospitalizations that we will see a very large number of long haulers caused because of this variant. Also on positive side for CYDY covid is now dominating topic of discussion on all media platforms. It was not front page news during the summer, when it was it talked about covid cases going down, vaccination numbers etc. everything is taking a downward shift. I was just on a cruise that 48 passengers tester positive first 5 days masks were not required on half the ships venues the last 2 days after positive cases were announced masks everywhere, many people highly concerned, more strict protocol changes. Relatives of mine towns in MA have just restarted mask mandates when indoors. So yes it would be great for this variant to be the end of covid as we know it however covid is not done changing, adapting and creating many new problems.
