It all comes down to the fact that the medical profession has lost its independence and is no longer self regulating. The profession is tightly controlled by a combination of the legal profession, politicians, and industry. None of whom know or give a damn about doctors or their patients. The reason for lack of ICU beds during a crisis is that if less than 90 % are filled during normal times they are not profitable. Medicine must be profitable or it disappears in America like any other business. That is the path that has been chosen.
