1. All the preventive measures put in place pre-vaccine were helpful in slowing spread to a degree to allow for development of vaccines which saved lives.
2. This whole discussion is about "spread". .
3. While no doubt the virus will reach an endemic phase, we must not let down our guard as far as preventive measure: mandatory masking, distancing, less social interaction, even accepting the distress of shutdowns and travel bans.
4. This is presently necessary to cut the spread down by a significant percent. Vaccinations play a key role but mainly shorten or lessen the load of virus and only modestly helps slow contraction.
5. But lessening the load of transfer does much in reducing the billion possibilities of new mutations.that otherwise would occur.
6. Allows the on-going mutation events to be minimized in terms of both new ones and allows time to get current ones under control. New vaccines will be necessary to keep up. The real worry in short term is we allow the omicron or stronger version next in line to take hold and dominate and further mutate. Look how fast Delta took over.
7. So far now, this is no time to let down our guard.
Finally, I'll keep my line open if some entity like Johns Hopkins wants to call to join their staff. So long everyone. Stay safe.
