here is ithe story of a racehorse named French Nylon. I came from a long line of bookies. My grandpa, and most of my uncles. when I was 15 in high school and then later in college I ran a book out of Fudge’s pool room in downtown Lowell. My market was my rich classmates at Brown during the week and then Friday to Sunday college kids at home in Lowell. My boss was Jackie McDermott who ran most of Middlesex County betting. After college I kept the Fudge’s gig and along the line I hooked up to a guy that was hooked up to a guy that was in the loop on Fat Tony’s (Cuillo, Cuilla something like that) Rockingham NH Racetrack fix. Fat Tony was huge- and fat of course- really fat. Only met him once. Enormous. He couldn’t approach jockeys because the contrast would have been laughable- and obvious. My guy was in the chain letter leading to the jockeys. I bet every cent I made - every week. I was killing it. Boats, cars, motorcycles, almost anything with a price tag. Drew some attention- which you are not supposed to do. I had a lot of followers that wanted in on how I was doing it. Why not? What could go wrong? Answer. French Nylon. There were so many guys in the loop that just before post time, the odds dropped to 2/1 or something ridiculous. Too many feeders. So here comes the silver bullet from top management.
I had placed pretty much everything I had on French Nylon with my Uncle Clarke. Never seen him laugh so hard when I asked how Frenchy did. Old bookers joke. “He went off at 20 to one ….. and he came in around quarter after four”. Everything changed from that point. South Boston and Winter Hill partnered with my boss, and the guys that resisted like Indian Al and Indian Joe were retired. Career change!!!!!
Beat feet out of Lowell to 3 years of med school- couldn’t get past Kubler Ross- careeer change again! , tried dental- too much like manual labor - then ortho. Next best thing to dermatology. Turned out to be wise choice. Billy Bazouski fresh out of federal vacation and promised middlesex county took my boss out for Chinese food and retired him.
Fast forward 50 years and couple ex-wives later. I was looking at the new immunotherapy investment fund all the celebrities and west coast rich people were putting together to cure cancer. So I cherry picked the list: Juno, Bluebird bio, lion biotech, kite. Couple others. the toys are back . And then all the Winter Hill Gang and South Boston skeletons came out of the closet. They wanted in. Gave them Abbvie with acquisitions and pipeline products, Nvax on nanoflu and potential vaccine at $6, and GNBT at 2. Told them to dump Nvax after $300 because vaccines are like betting hard 8’s. Fools bet. (Like GNBT?) They did and my gut tells me they rolled it into Gnbt. I wouldn’t be surprised if they held 3-5 million shares or even as high as 10 million shares spread around various entities- or they may have cashed. They are gamblers not investors. Personally I hope they’re out because I don’t want Gnbt to be another French Nylon fiasco. But honestly ……Gnbt is starting to feel like a lot like French Nylon and Joe is holding the silver bullet. if my postings suddenly stop, and people are looking for me, tell them to look at the bottom of Bastan Hahbah.
Actually I am going in for CABG surgery tomorrow morning and you never know so I thought I would unload and give everyone heads up. They are not the 13d type of people so I hope everything is squeaky clean and bulletproof as Joe has said in the past. Best of luck w GNBT longs.
