I'm not a physician/medical doctor, so I can't really judge a lot. I found Joe's post to be very sobering too.
But: On reddit, MGK - he says, he is a physician - replied the following to similar posts about NASH:
"With an MRI, you can appreciate the fatty signal and the liver signal.
Their premise is that when you measure a significant reduction in the quantity of fat surrounding the liver, you have met end point.
The hepatocyte remains the same, whether the patient has NASH or not. When the fat is removed, you've cured him. The liver stops releasing all those elevated liver enzymes and becomes a happy liver.
Just take away the fat and the liver returns to normal.
The fat is a measurable quantity on MRI. Biopsy not required. "
