420 with CNW — What Are Cannabidiol Crystals?

Cannabis has become popular in the last few years, as more states across the country legalize it for both recreational and medical use. The plant has more than 100 compounds, with roughly 80 of them being classified as cannabinoids. CBD is one of the two main cannabinoid compounds found in the marijuana plant; the other one is THC, which has psychoactive properties that induce a marijuana high. THC is found in high concentrations in most cannabis strains.

CBD, or cannabidiol, has numerous potential health benefits. In its pure form, CBD is known as CBD isolate or CBD crystals. Below, we explore what CBD crystals are and how they can be used.

What are CBD crystals?

These crystals only contain CBD, which can be extracted in multiple ways from the marijuana plant. These methods include solvent extraction, carbon dioxide extraction and steam distillation. The end product usually contains different compounds from the marijuana plant, including low THC levels. However, this is dependent on the plant source.

At this stage, the extracted CBD is either broad spectrum or full spectrum. It is at this stage that the product is further refined to get CBD isolate.

The refining process used to obtain CBD crystals removes all non-CBD compounds from the product, leaving behind pure CBD in crystal form. These crystals can then be used in other CBD products or ground up and sold.

What is the difference between CBD isolate and other CBD forms?

CBD isolate doesn’t contain THC. This is in addition to having no distinct smell or flavor, because it’s highly refined.

What are its benefits?

While studies on CBD are still in their early stages, researchers believe that cannabidiol influences cannabinoid receptors in the human body. The potential health benefits of this compound include:

Pain relief
Anti-anxiety effects
Anti-seizure effects
Nausea relief
Vomiting prevention
Anti-inflammation effects
Immune-boosting properties
A recently published article also found that CBD may impact noncannabinoid receptors such as the 5-HTP serotonin receptor. Serotonin is the chemical produced by the brain and has an effect on sleep and is known to influence an individual’s levels of depression and anxiety. This may explain why some individuals report that CBD has positively affected their symptoms of anxiety and pain.

How are CBD crystals used?

The compound can be used in various ways, including dissolving them into a carrier oil such as olive oil and jojoba oil; using it in DIY skin-care formulations; or adding the crystals to baked foods and goods. CBD isolate needs to be dissolved in butter or oil before it can be added to food.

Given the limitations of CBD crystals, including the absence of an entourage effect triggered by other hemp compounds, leading companies such as The Alkaline Water Company Ltd. (NASDAQ: WTER) (CSE: WTER) prefer to use broad-spectrum and full-spectrum CBD in their products.
