New shoppers, increased sales, and our latest TV ads: There’s plenty to be excited about on Etsy right now.

Shoppers’ needs changed quickly last year and more and more buyers turned to Etsy sellers to find what they were looking for. That momentum has continued into 2021. “In a time when human connection is so vital, Etsy provides a one-of-a-kind community where sellers are empowered to grow their businesses, reaching buyers who value finding items that express their unique identity, while putting their money where their heart is,” said Josh Silverman, Etsy’s Chief Executive Officer.
To give you more insight into how much Etsy has grown so far this year, we’re sharing a few quick stats from Etsy’s latest earnings report. Enough chit chat—let’s get to the numbers!
16.3 million new and reactivated buyers made a purchase on Etsy from January to March. Reactivated buyers are shoppers who had not purchased on Etsy in a year or more who came back and made a purchase.
Shoppers spent $2.9 billion on Etsy from January to March. That’s a 144% increase compared to the same time last year!
International sales were 44% of sales on Etsy and increased 177% compared to the same time last year.
Buyers keep coming back. There was a 205% increase in habitual buyers on Etsy during the first three months of the year and they now represent almost 9% of active buyers on Etsy. Habitual buyers are shoppers who’ve made purchases on 6 or more days and spent $200 or more on Etsy in the past 12 months.
Seeing this growth is really exciting because more shoppers on Etsy means more potential opportunities for your business.
As Etsy grows, we continue to invest more in marketing to bring new shoppers to the site and increase awareness of the brand. In case you missed it, we just launched a new TV campaign “Why Buy Boring” which highlights the special items available on Etsy. Watch those ads.
We’ve also been exploring new ways to showcase the creativity of Etsy sellers and bring new shoppers to the site. For example, we’ve seen quite a bit of buzz around the recent Creator Collaboration between Etsy sellers and fashion designer Prabal Gurung. The designer worked directly with Etsy shop owners to create the exclusive collection. Check it out here.
