I live in Chicago, and I can tell you Chicago is a different country than the rest of Illinois. Throughout the whole pandemic, Chicago did not have the huge problems NYC and LA had. Knowone knows why and it was not that there was no Covid - it was just not as bad as other parts of the country. There are and were parts of Chicago that were bad but the rest of Illinos was noticeably worse. Chicago is a largely democratic city and Illinos is a largely republican state, I'm not making a political statement, just pointing it out. The seriousness of the threat taken by Chicago was more obvious than the suburbs and rural Illinos.
