Federalist 51- "If men were angels, no government

"If men were angels, no government would be necessary."
Man by his very nature is corrupt. It's the rule of law that kept America strong. It is neither the lobbyists nor the representative (because we expect them to be corrupt), it is the decades of effort to corrupt the SCOTUS that have succeeded in reinterpretation. Whether it be converting 2A from a civic responsibility to an individual right, seeing corporations as people, i.e., adding even more $'s into the game, or undermining the right to vote, the source of many of our current problems go back to the highest court in the land.
Additionally, in 1790 the population of our largest state was 6X our smallest. Today it is 68X resulting in granting Wyoming and California equal representation in the senate. A Jefferson quote really captures our failure to continue to adapt and modernize our constitution- “I am not an advocate for frequent changes in laws and Constitutions. But laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. As that becomes more developed, more enlightened, as new discoveries are made, new truths discovered and manners and opinions change, with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also to keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors.”
