One of the BIGGEST clusterf**Ks in modern medical science.....
I was blessed to have a son-in-law who is a Chief Medical Officer for a group of clinics and because my wife and I were away from home, visiting family last December, we got our first "jab" when a few of his medical staff refused it and he was desperate to find a few people who were available and qualified to get it. It took nearly seven more weeks to get the 2nd shot after returning home.
I will dutifully line up for a booster if and when it is recommended and approved for me. ! am 66 years old with mild hypertension and a BMI over 30.
All that to preface this....
I do not personally know anyone who has died of Covid-19, but I know many who have had it. My son-in-law, the doctor nearly died of an autoimmune disease about 15 years ago and he got Covid-19 prior to the vaccine. He is now a long hauler. His lungs are affected, he gets headaches that are crushing and his sense of smell is nearly non-existent. My youngest granddaughter (9) just had it. She is fine now, thank God.
My youngest son, his wife and their two sons have lived like mushrooms for over 19 months now. All but the youngest (10) has been fully vaccinated, Both of my sisters have COPD and got vaccinated.
My conservative leanings would like me to be able to say "screw'em" to anyone who doesn't get vaccinated, but my heart says to hold out hope they can be reached (much like all those left behind in Afghanistan).
In my younger days I would have argued for "freedom of choice", but now I believe the government should have been BRUTALLY honest and told us in spite of not really KNOWING a lot about this virus, they would MANDATE all vulnerable populations be vaccinated ASAP and once substantially completed that in regular order all residents over a certain age would be required to get the vaccination (exemptions for actual health and religious reasons of course).
Healthcare workers are transferring from frontline positions and some are resigning from the medical profession. My son-in-law is going to have to fire several of his staff that absolutely refuse the vaccine.
Knowing we have a treatment that would not only have saved tens if not thousands of lives in this country alone, IF ONLY it was allowed to be produced, distributed and used has finally brought me to the point where I really just needed to say this.
