James, i can't prove it, but the data surely shows some interesting evidence:
it's easy to look at the buys vs sells on ihub: 5.4M buys vs 573K sells . This means, people buying at the ask, vs selling at the bid. So 5.4M shares bought at the ask.
According to the shorts data, published by blue: about 4M of 6M short volume for Friday, so only 2M was NOT short volume.
So that means that BIG 3M buy at the end of the day had to include some short volume, at least 1M, but I bet it was more because it was a large ask with 1 broker. Shorts will sometimes place a lot of short shares on the ASK to discourage buyers, and of course they're hoping nobody buys the shares, otherwise they have to buy them back some day... BIG RISK.
