It spread the first time because it's existence and escape were covered up, denied, "not human-to-human transmissible,".. that was the time to stop it. Instead, most complained about how inconvenient it would be to snuff out the pandemic. Several countries did it, but it required too much of the rest of the population. More than they were capable of.
China stopped it the first time, ironically. It's illegal border jumpers from up north that brought Delta in, fairly recently. Same with Vietnam. New Zealand likely had the same, though it's unconfirmed. Taiwan had 0 cases yesterday. I don't think you're really informed on the state and history of the pandemic, globally.
That was the same argument at the beginning.. "this is just dragging things on.. this isn't even as bad as the flu." Now its worse, because mutations are a thing, like anyone with a basic grasp of biology said last year. Guess what.. it's going to keep getting worse until it kills anyone not blessed by genetic lottery. Because that's what pandemics are.. large scale culling of populations by a selective pathogen.
What you also fail to realize is the history of pandemics, and their cyclical nature. This pandemic is feeding off of and becoming stronger from the unmanaged and ingored worldwide HIV pandemic. There couldn't have been an HIV pandemic without the 1918 flu pandemic, most likely, and there was a pandemic that set up humanity for the flu tbst proceeded it. This is just one more phase of that cycle, and it's just truly starting.
