BOSTON — The latest and greatest non-beer booze craze is taking a turn down the soda aisle.
Boston Beer Company, the parent company of Sam Adams, is partnering with PepsiCo to create an alcoholic Mountain Dew.
"HARD MTN DEW," will be a sugar-free canned beverage with 5% alcohol by volume and will come in three different flavors: original, watermelon, and black cherry.
The flavored malt beverage will be marketed towards adults who are getting sick of the seltzer craze but are still looking for fun flavored alcohol.
"We know that adult drinkers' tastes are evolving, and they are looking for new and exciting flavorful beverages," says Dave Burwick, Boston Beer's CEO. "The combination of our experience in brewing and developing the best-tasting hard seltzers and hard teas, and MTN DEW, a one of [a] kind multi-billion-dollar brand, will deliver the excitement and refreshment that drinkers know and love."
Kirk Tanner, the CEO of PepsiCo Beverages North America says not to worry about the taste, as HARD MTN DEW will maintain the bold, citrus flavor fans know and expect.
Regarding the partnership, Boston Beer says they will develop and produce the drink while PepsiCo will be the one to sell, deliver, and merchandise it.
HARD MTN DEW is set to hit shelves in early 2022.
