The Delta variant causes 10 times the viral load that the original virus produced. People who are vaccinated can get mild cases, or asymptomatic cases, that would put unvaccinated people in the hospitals. But, no vaccine is 100% protective.
People who are unvaccinated are 97% of the hospital cases. Given that about 50% of the population has gotten at least one shot, this shows that not being vaccinated puts you at much higher risk.
However, there are people who can't be vaccinated. Any child under 12. Some people with certain diseases.
When people refuse to wear masks and refuse to be vaccinated, they are saying "I don't care if children die, and I don't care if I kill Granny."
