Also, many scientists see the Delta variant as a normal progression in the life cycle of a new virus. At first, the virus is more lethal and people get sicker, but because people are so sick they are not out and about spreading it.
Then, the virus mutates, as we see with Delta, and it becomes much more contagious because most people are not that sick and therefore are out and about spreading it. So, it is less lethal and more contagious.
It is true that high risk people can still end up in the ICU with Delta, but for most people it is just like a cold or the sniffles. Pull up the charts for hospitalizations and deaths for last year and winter 2021, and compare those numbers to now. You will see what I am talking about.
